Yes, it is something that has plagued Palworld ever since launch. The game is still young, even though it has launched, and the team behind the game is working on fixing the memory leaks. It has become considerably better though, and we have full confidence that it will soon be solved!
It is extremely important to turn off the server before you change the config files. Otherwise the game engine simply deletes the entire file. Don't ask us why it is like that, because we scratch our heads every time we forget to turn off the server. It is completely silly, but unfortunately that is just how it is.
