In short, you cannot install mods on Bedrock. But fear not! There are ADDONS
Can't figure out how to download mods for a Bedrock server? Here we quickly go through how, and why some mods might not work.
First of all, where do you find mods? Some sites, probably the best known one with mods being CurseForge, where you need to use their website, not the app, to find Bedrock compatible mods. If you don't find results for «bedrock mods» in the search engine, you probably need to search for «add-ons». If you try to download a mod for the Java version of Minecraft, you will have a much bigger challenge, because Java Minecraft uses, yes…Java?, while Bedrock uses C++ (it is like filling petrol in a diesel car, it won't work)
NB: It is important to make sure the mods you want have .mcpack, .mcaddon or .mcworld for them to work on Bedrock.
How-to:
- Download add-ons / mods from the website.
- Open the Minecraft client and create a new world (don't use an existing one, create a new one).
- Find «Resource Packs» and «Behavior Packs» and then add the add-ons to your client / world.
- Save the world.
Now comes the slightly more «advanced» part, you might say.
- open File Explorer, or search for %appdata% and find Minecraft Bedrock open: Games, then: mojang
- Find the minecraftWorlds folder, then create a .zip file with the following files: behaviour_packs, resource_packs, world_behavior_packs.json, world_behavior_pack_history.json, world_resource_pack_history.json andjson
- Upload the .zip file to the server, and make sure it is inside /worlds/ <name of world> and extract it. Then start the server, and BAM!! You are ready!
Always remember to take backups! before you make changes to files, we do not support any changes made to Minecraft Bedrock servers, all responsibility lies with you.
Some of these add-ons have their own guides on how to install them.
